Why SCUNet instead of an upscaler?

Real-ESRGAN and similar upscalers generate pixels — great for anime, terrible for photos with text and many faces. SCUNet was trained to remove real-world noise (JPEG, grain, blur) while staying faithful to what’s actually in the image.

Hard limits

Tiny text and faces in a low-res screenshot won’t become readable — denoising cleans the image but can’t recover detail that was never captured.
